Your Wellness Connection
About Joyce Leonard

I believe that everyone is entitled to a wonderful life. I am passionate about empowering others to see options and possibilities in their lives, to heal what needs healing, to live life at choice, to have the courage to make changes that allow for more peace and happiness, and to open to more love and compassion for themselves and others.

With over 20 years of experience as a Reiki Master, my work is devoted to supporting deep healing, personal growth, and transformation.
As the founder of Santa Cruz Reiki Works, I offer my wellness services skillfully, safely, powerfully, and compassionately. My core business values are to have passion for my work and be in the flow, to continuously improve personally and professionally, to honor each person’s journey, to act with integrity, and to serve the common good.

The qualities I bring to my work include my ray of light, my ability to be truly present and listen - so that my clients feel heard, seen, and understood, and a non-judgmental way of being that allows people to feel safe sharing all parts of themselves with me. I bring groundedness, a radiant heart, and a genuine comfort with silence which often allows deeper healing to unfold.

My professional life began in the corporate world, where I spent over 20 years in roles including customer service representative, call center manager, instructor, product and project manager, and team lead. That experience continues to support the structure and professionalism I bring to my practice today.

In my early forties, I felt a different stirring, and, after much soul-searching, I changed careers and became a Business, Life, and Relationship Coach. Since then, I have been supporting people in discovering their own inner wisdom and creating richer, more fulfilling lives.

My Reiki journey began in 2005 with the study of animal Reiki under Kathleen Prasad of Animal Reiki Source. In 2007, I started my Reiki Master’ training with Frans Stiene of the International House of Reiki. My practice is rooted in the traditional Japanese form of Reiki, with its beginnings in Japan, which is not the same form as is often practiced in the West. Here, the focus is on personal and spiritual development, in addition to hands-on-healing. Over the years, this work has continued to deepen through teaching, client sessions, and my own daily practice.

In the summer of 2007, I came down with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I actually consider RA as a blessing – the crack in which light came pouring in. Thanks, in large part, to my personal Reiki meditation practice, I began listening more deeply to my body and my spirit, and began healing on an even deeper level, physically, mentally, and emotionally. The more I heal, the less medication I need to take!

In the summer of 2008, my husband and I relocated from San Francisco to the Santa Cruz mountains, where I started Santa Cruz Reiki Works. In my Wellness Center, surrounded by Redwood trees, I offer sessions, teach classes, and lead workshops.

Over time, my healing work has expanded to include hypnotherapy (certified in 2017) and breathwork (certified in 2022). In all of these modalities, I support clients in discovering their own truth and wisdom.

Service has always been an important part of my path. I volunteered with the San Francisco SPCA for four years, offering Reiki to the cats and kittens. I volunteered in hospice for ten years, offering Reiki to the dying and their caregivers, as well as serving as a grief support volunteer. I have taught introductory Reiki classes at the University of California Santa Cruz, and currently offer Reiki in corporate and nonprofit settings. I offer Reiki during the Sunday night Sound Baths and lead Group Breathwork journeys at Breath and Oneness in Capitola.

I thoroughly enjoy my life with my beloved husband, cat, chickens, the Redwood trees, my garden, and a rich community of family, dear friends, students, and clients.
