About: About
Joyce 2024_edited_edited_edited_edited_edited_edited.jpg

I believe that everyone is entitled to a wonderful life. I am passionate about empowering others to see options and possibilities in their lives, to heal what needs healing, to live life at choice, to have the courage to make changes that allow for more peace and happiness, and to open to more love and compassion for themselves and others.

As the founder of Santa Cruz Reiki Works, I offer my wellness services skillfully, safely, powerfully, and compassionately. My core business values are to have passion for my work and be in the flow, to continuously improve personally and professionally, to honor each person’s journey, to act with integrity, and to serve the common good.

My unique essences that I bring to my work are my ray of light, my keen ability to be truly present and listen, where my clients feel heard, seen, and understood, my non-judgmental attitude that enable clients to feel very safe sharing their shadow sides with me, my groundedness, radiant heart and smile, and my capacity to sit in silence with others.

I began my adult life working in the corporate world, holding positions of customer service representative, call center manager, instructor, product and project manager, and team lead for over 20 years.

In my early forties, I felt a different stirring, and, after much soul-searching, I changed careers and became a Business, Life, and Relationship Coach. I now help people discover within themselves how to lead richer, happier, more fulfilling lives.

I began to study animal Reiki in 2005, under Kathleen Prasad, of Animal Reiki Source. In 2007 I started my Reiki Master’s training with Frans Stiene, of the International House of Reiki. I practice the traditional Japanese form of Reiki, with its roots in Japan, which is not the same form as is often practiced in the West. Here, the focus is on personal and spiritual development, in addition to hands-on-healing.

In the summer of 2007, I came down with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I actually consider RA as a blessing – the crack in which light came pouring in. Thanks in large part to my personal Reiki meditation practice, I started listening to my body and my spirit and began healing on an even deeper level, physically, mentally, and emotionally. The more I heal emotionally, the less medication I need to take!

My husband and I relocated from San Francisco to the Santa Cruz mountains in the summer of 2008, where I started Santa Cruz Reiki Works. In my Wellness Center, surrounded by Redwood trees, I offer sessions, teach, and run workshops.

Hypnotherapy was added to my skill-set and passion in 2017. As with all my modalities, the approach is on the client discovering for themselves their own innate truth and wisdom. I don't use scripts, instead I opt for a direct, personal, and organic healing approach.

In the spring of 2022, I became certified as a Breathwork Practitioner with Alchemy of Breath. As with all of the healing modalities that I practice, I start with my own healing. Having direct experiences enables me to be a more compassionate and skillful facilitator.

I volunteered for the San Francisco SPCA for four years, offering Reiki to the cats and kittens. I volunteered in hospice for ten years, offering Reiki to the dying and their caregivers, as well as offering Reiki as a Grief Support Volunteer. I taught introductory Reiki classes at the University of California Santa Cruz. I currently offer Reiki in the form of "Reiki Breaks" at corporations and nonprofits. As well as offer Reiki during Sound Baths and offer Group Breathwork at Breath and Oneness in Capitola.

I thoroughly enjoy my life with my beloved husband, cat, chickens, the Redwood trees, my garden, and a rich community of family, dear friends, students, and clients.
